Special Weather Statement issued July 18 at 5:57PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA At 556 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms over South Boston, moving east at 30 mph. These storms are separate from the storms that have a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in far east Halifax County and southern Charlotte County. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... South Boston... Halifax... Redoak... Clover... Turbeville... Scottsburg... and Hitesburg. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for north central North Carolina...and central and south central Virginia.
