Special Weather Statement issued July 1 at 6:28PM CDT by NWS Memphis TN At 628 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms 7 miles north of Slayden, or 14 miles east of Collierville, moving northwest at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Olive Branch, Holly Springs, Bolivar, Wall Doxey State Park, Cordova, Memphis, Lakeland, Arlington, Whiteville, Somerville, Byhalia, Mt Pleasant, Lewisburg, Red Banks, Barr, Independence, and Eads. This includes the following highways... Interstate 40 in Tennessee between mile markers 12 and 50. Interstate 22 in Mississipppi between mile markers 1 and 38. Interstate 240 between mile markers 13 and 17. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM CDT for northeastern and northwestern Mississippi.
