Special Weather Statement issued July 8 at 9:58PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC At 957 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 7 miles northeast of Angier to 14 miles west of Lillington to near Sanford. Movement was northeast at 5 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Sanford, Fuquay-Varina, Angier, Holly Springs, Broadway, Lemon Springs, Gum Springs, Raven Rock State Park, Coats Crossroads, and Olivia. This includes the following highways... Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 310 and 321. US 1 between Mile Markers 69 and 75. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Very heavy rain can be expected due to the slow movement of these storms. Prolonged heavy rain will result in ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and minor flooding of creeks and streams. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid hydroplaning.
