Special Weather Statement issued June 22 at 7:53PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC At 749 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking outflow winds from strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Roxboro to near Rougemont to near Hillsborough to 10 miles northeast of Siler City. Movement was east at 45 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, Henderson, Oxford, Creedmoor, Wake Forest, Butner, and Franklinton. Strong winds may occur well ahead of any rain or lightning. Do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building and stay away from windows. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM EDT for central North Carolina.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Henderson, Oxford, Creedmoor, Butner, Kittrell, Stem, and Stovall. This includes the following highways... Interstate 85 between Mile Markers 172 and 222. Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 270 and 280. Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 0 and 4. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Straight line winds can blow down trees, power lines, and damage mobile homes and other buildings. Seek shelter in a sturdy structure until the storm has passed. Stay away from windows as flying debris generated by damaging winds can be deadly.
