Special Weather Statement issued June 27 at 5:57PM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC At 556 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Edward, or 16 miles southeast of River Road, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Ransomville, Blounts Creek, Pamlico Beach, Askins, Lowland, Cayton, Florence, Edward, Grantsboro, Royal, Cox Crossroads, Bonnerton, Bayview, Whortonsville, Core Point, South Creek, Maribel, Merritt, Ernul, and Aurora Ferry Terminal. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for eastern North Carolina.
