Special Marine Warning issued June 6 at 5:56PM CDT until June 6 at 6:45PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA For the following areas... Mississippi Sound... At 546 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located over Pass Christian. The severe thunderstorm was nearly stationary. HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Waterspouts can quickly form and capsize boats...damage vessels and oil rigs...and create suddenly higher waves. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Locations impacted include... Cat Island, Long Beach, Pass Christian, Biloxi, and Gulfport. Strong winds will be dangerous for boaters or anyone near the water. Boaters should avoid waterspouts and never navigate near them. Make sure all on board are wearing life jackets. Waterspouts can move onshore as a torando! Seek shelter in a sturdy building or move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes.
