Special Weather Statement issued July 9 at 1:36PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA At 136 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Arabi, or near Chalmette, moving west at 10 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... New Orleans, Metairie, East New Orleans, Jefferson, Harahan, Elmwood, Arabi, and Lakefront Airport. This includes the following Interstates... Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 226 and 233, and between mile markers 237 and 247. Interstate 510 between mile markers 1 and 3. Interstate 610 between mile markers 1 and 4. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

Flood Advisory issued July 9 at 1:50PM CDT until July 9 at 3:45PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...West Central Orleans Parish in southeastern Louisiana... * WHEN...Until 345 PM CDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 150 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Up to 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... New Orleans and Lakefront Airport. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
