Heat Advisory issued July 27 at 5:24PM CDT until July 27 at 10:00PM CDT by NWS Goodland KS * WHAT...Air temperatures and heat index values up to 110. * WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Kansas and southwest Nebraska. * WHEN...Until 10 PM CDT /9 PM MDT/ this evening. * IMPACTS...High risk of heat related illnesses. Multiple days of triple digit heat will also place considerable stress on livestock and outdoor pets. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...With low temperatures in the mid 60's to mid 70's, there will be minimal relief or recovery from the heat tonight and early Tuesday morning. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Special Weather Statement issued July 27 at 4:13PM MDT by NWS Goodland KS At 412 PM MDT/512 PM CDT/, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 8 miles southeast of Benkelman. This thunderstorm was nearly stationary. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 55 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. This storm will remain over mainly rural areas of northeastern Cheyenne and northwestern Rawlins Counties in northwestern Kansas, southwestern Hitchcock and southeastern Dundy Counties in southwestern Nebraska, including the following locations... Max, Blakeman, and Beardsley. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
