In north central Iowa, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth and Wright. In northeast Iowa, Black Hawk and Bremer. In northwest Iowa, Emmet, Palo Alto and Pocahontas. In west central Iowa, Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, Guthrie and Sac. * WHEN...Until 10 AM CDT this morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flash Flood Warning issued July 3 at 2:58AM CDT until July 3 at 5:15AM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA At 258 AM CDT, the Iowa Department of Transportation reported 6 to 12 inches of water on I-35 northbound just north of Ankeny. Parts of northern Polk County have received between 4 and 8 inches of rainfall per rain gage observations and radar estimates. For northern Jasper County, rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are more common. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area as storms continue to move into the area this morning. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Department of Transportation reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Ankeny, Johnston, Newton, Bondurant, Polk City, Colfax, Granger, Baxter, Iowa Speedway, Saylorville Lake, Big Creek Lake, Elkhart, Alleman, Sheldahl, Mingo, Lambs Grove, Valeria, Newton Municipal Airport and Big Creek State Park. Expect significant flash flooding in the Fourmile Creek Basin. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
